Toby finally sat still long enough to take a photograph to paint from. I did this one in pastel, my usual medium. Toby is a very active young dachshund who thinks he is a cat, since he is always perching on the sofa behind my husband's head.
As a child, I longed to be an artist. Having been raised in a family of singers and musicians, I gained an appreciation for all of the arts. I attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, both Studio and Art History. During my senior year, I studied art, architecture, and sculpture via the great masterpieces in England, France, Holland, Germany, and Italy. Loving to draw and loving color, pastels turned out to be in perfect harmony with my work in landscapes, still life’s and animal portraits.
